Fallout Maps In The Real World
Jamie was playing with this on social media, and a few people seemed to like it. The geographic size of the map bears little relation to the size of the map in gameplay. This is just to demonstrate the areas covered in the games. But those that are interested (thanks to DudeOverdosed on Reddit) to walk from corner to corner of the maps it takes:
- Fallout 4 takes 56 Mins
- Fallout New Vegas takes 1Hr 9Mins
- Fallout 3 takes 1Hr 11Mins
Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas
If you stretch Fallout 2 to the east the topography lines up slightly better for the mountain range. Vault 13 and 15, along with Shady Sands/NCR do not line up, so have been moved between games.
Fallout 3
I like the jaunty angle! I have used the Potomac river as the reference point. The river does not follow absolutely correctly, but it has dried due to a nuclear war.The White House is in the correct place too. So I am happy with this map.
Fallout New Vegas
This map lines up very well, the primary reference point is the Colorado river and the I15. These line up almost perfectly.
Fallout 4
These maps do not seem to align very well. I can align Manahat, and the rivers. The rest are way off. Apparently the map was scaled to allow for the settlement system work. To give you an idea of scale, this is around 8 squares around the Cathedral in Fallout 1, or purely the sections immediately surrounding New Vegas City.
All Maps Combined
So, slight disclaimer. Zooming so far out removes any details I can align to, but this is roughly how they compare. I am surprised how large New Vegas/Mojave desert geographical coverage are compared to 3 and 4.
